I checked the official Twins website, late in Minnesota’s 10-4 pummeling at the hands of the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday evening.

The big headline was “Buxton puts an end to O-fer,” noting for the whole world that Byron Buxton had finally ended his streak of hitless at-bats. Here’s my question: who is this more insulting towards? Possibilities:

  1. Buxton, since him getting a hit was front-page news.
  2. The Twins overall, since the most positive news that the team website could find was that somebody actually got a hit.

Buxton did go on to hit a home run as well, as the Twins made things a little more respectable after trailing 10-0; all we can hope now is that his slump is over, like a deluge after a drought.

Semi-hilariously, Max Kepler also homered late, as the Red Sox let the most desperate hitters in the lineup pad their stats a little bit.

Also homering was Royce Lewis, who was 3-for-4 and has been a bright spot for Minnesota. He’s batting .311 so far, with an .808 OPS; he may end up being the team’s offensive MVP.

It’s hard to keep track of who’s in the Twins bullpen right now, but Brent Headrick - who’s been in the Triple-A rotation most of the year - got the worst of it on Tuesday, giving up five runs in the seventh inning.

The Lynx won 67-61 on Tuesday, beating Los Angeles for the third time in nine days. Minnesota is 1-7 against the rest of the league this year, but 3-0 against the Sparks; meanwhile, L.A. has a winning record against the rest of the WNBA, but has lost three games to Minnesota.

If Minnesota doesn’t end up getting the chance to draft Caitlin Clark or Paige Bueckers, we can blame Los Angeles. First they steal our basketball team seventy years ago, and now this.

Napheesa Collier carried the squad again, with 26 points and 14 rebounds; I feel like we’re all being reminded just how good Collier is. Bridget Carleton was the only other Minnesota player in double figures, with 14 points.

Number-two pick Diamond Miller still hasn’t returned to the lineup for Minnesota, and hasn’t played since injuring her ankle on May 30. Second-round pick Dorka Juhasz left Tuesday’s game with an injury, as well.

Maybe this will turn into a Vikings-style draft, where effectively they end up with two draft classes at once, because all of their top picks spent most of the season out injured.

The Saints are in Toledo, and continued their winning ways Tuesday, beating the Mud Hens 6-2. Chris Williams homered again, and Jose Miranda drove in two runs. Simeon Woods Richardson had a decent start as well, finishing four and two-thirds innings and allowing one run on three hits and two walks.

St. Paul is four and a half games back of Norfolk, with five games left to play in the first half of the season.

… so you’re telling me there’s a chance?
