Tuesday’s Twins win, 5-3 against Detroit, contained one of the more memorable moments of the season so far. Matt Wallner hit a grand slam in the sixth inning, giving the Twins a 5-2 lead, and the Forest Lake native got the fun of taking a curtain call in front of his hometown fans.

Wallner has provided two memorable moments, with this and his walk-off homer against Arizona last week, and perhaps that’s all we should remember about this game. It was a moon shot of a homer, landing above the second-deck walkway in right-center field. The official measurement was 450 feet, but it seemed longer. It’s worth remembering that, when Target Field opened, it seemed more or less impossible to hit the ball out of the park to right-center; Miguel Cabrera did it about twice a series (he homered on Tuesday too, in probably his last game against Minnesota), but otherwise it seemed more or less unreachable. And Wallner not only hit it out, but into the middle of the second deck.

But there are other, worse, things to remember about Tuesday.

We could also remember that the Twins managed one hit and one walk in five innings against Alex Faedo, who has a 2.79 ERA against the Twins this year and a 6.52 ERA against the rest of the league.

We could note that Carlos Correa came up with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning, and bounced into a double play, his league-leading 23rd GIDP (nobody else has more than 20). Correa needs to hit into five more this year to tie Harmon Killebrew’s team record; with seven more, he’d become just the 17th major leaguer to ever hit into 30 double plays in a year (Jim Rice did it three times).

We could mention that in the eighth, Joey Gallo came up with a runner on second and two outs, and struck out looking on a fastball down the middle. Gallo has 20 homers this year, and 17 singles; it should not be possible to hit fewer singles than homers in a year, except that this would be his third time accomplishing this feat in his career (40 homers, 38 singles in 2018; 41 homers, 32 singles in 2017.)

For his entire career, Gallo has 197 homers and 213 singles. Something about that is horrifying to me.

Over in St. Paul, our old friend Randy Dobnak took a beating, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and three walks, as the Saints lost 8-5 to the Indianapolis… how is this team still named the Indians? Do they not have the news in Indianapolis?

St. Paul trailed 8-3 in the ninth, but managed to get the tying run to the plate, after Austin Martin hit a two-run homer and the Saints walked twice. But Brooks Lee grounded out, and Trevor Larnach struck out, which at least put an exciting end to a game that looked to be circling the drain.

The Saints were wearing their “Santos de San Pedro” jerseys, part of a minor league initiative called the “Copa de la Diversión” which is meant to honor Latino baseball. I mention this for two reasons: one, the NBA should definitely call its new in-season tournament the “Copa de la Diversión”, which of course translates to “Fun Cup”. Second, the Saints team store does not appear to sell any Santos de San Pedro merchandise, which is a shame because I would like to purchase it.
